Fundraiser for Food Relief in Sri Lanka
Please note that ticket sales end at 5pm AEDT on Monday, 25 April.
This event is also suited to vegetarians.
About the Crisis in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is currently undergoing a national crisis that has left many without food, fuel or power. The ongoing political and economic crisis is largely due to government misdoings and corruption, and now the country’s citizens are protesting in hope of overthrowing the Rajapaksa regime.
Food prices have increased by more than three times their value leaving those who are already impoverished to starve. Daily power outages (of up to 14 hours a day) also mean people are left without refrigeration, cooling (when it’s currently 30 degrees in Colombo) and more.
You can help change this. This fundraiser will raise much needed funds to provide food security to families in dire need.
When? Sunday, May 1. 12pm-3pm.
Where? The Grand Ballroom at the Hotel Windsor.
Join us for a long sit-down lunch at the Hotel Windsor’s beautiful Grand Ballroom. The three-course Sri Lankan-inspired lunch will be catered for by Many Little Bar and Bistro and Polperro Winery's executive chef, Gayan Pieris.
Expect floating Sri Lankan-style canapes, otherwise known as short eats, a feast of shared plates (curries, rice and roti), dessert and plenty of wine and beer. An auction will also take place and guests will be able to bid on packages by some of Melbourne's best restaurants, wineries, chefs, brewers and more. The cost of each ticket also ensures a significant donation to Greater Giving and could ensure a week’s worth of food for seven families.
The Grand Ballroom can seat up to 200 people so we encourage groups to get together for this event where possible. This could also make for the ideal Mother’s Day present!
A guest list will contain names of those attending with allocated seating. Each table can seat up to 10.
About Greater Giving Sri Lanka
All funds raised will go directly towards Greater Giving Sri Lanka, a registered not for profit organisation that has over 50 volunteers on the ground in Sri Lanka. We purposefully chose a smaller organisation which can offer transparency around the distribution of funds and will ensure they go towards offering food security to those in need. The team will use these funds to assist and provide for families that have been left without food and medicine (due to increased prices).
